Growing up in a rural community, I understand the importance of the work our Michigan farmers do to grow and harvest their crops. It was instilled in me from a young age. Our farmers make up a crucial part of the mid-Michigan economy, and I know what it means to have their backs.
In the State Senate, I worked to support our farmers and rural communities. That always starts with listening at the dozens of town hall meetings in the rural parts of my district. I have protected heritage farmland, strengthened property rights, increased funding for rural school districts, and secured money for agricultural businesses.
In Congress, I will continue Rep. Kildee’s legacy of standing up for mid-Michigan farmers. Michigan is one of the most diverse agriculture states in the country and so our farmers’ interests should be on every single page of the Farm Bill. Among other priorities, I will fight for fair trade that provides our farmers with markets for their commodities while protecting them from unfair, subsidized foreign competition. I will fight to ensure that we maintain and strengthen our farm safety net. I will take on big Ag and corporate consolidation so that family and mid-sized farms have a chance to compete. I will also work to establish a Right to Repair for prohibitively expensive farm equipment.
