PRIORITY

Lowering Costs & Creating Opportunity

Growing up in a working-class, Michigan household, I learned that if you work hard, you should be able to support your family. But with costs rising faster than wages – especially here in Mid-Michigan – that reality is increasingly out of reach for too many. I will work tirelessly to lower costs and create opportunity, so that every Michigander has a pathway to work hard and afford to put food on the table, raise their family, and retire with dignity.

In the State Senate, I led the charge to pass the largest tax cut for working families, and helped repeal Michigan’s burdensome pension and retirement tax. I continue to take on special interests, introducing legislation to lower everyday costs like housing and prescription drugs, and to address the growing child care crisis in Michigan.

In Congress, my top priority will continue to be lowering the costs hurting mid-Michigan families. I will take on the corporate price gouging that drives up the price of groceries and gas. I will protect social security against extremists looking to cut or privatize it. I will take on the big drug companies to cap the price of insulin at $35 a month for everyone and allow Medicare to negotiate lower prices on more prescription drugs. I will work to lower the crushing cost to buy or rent a home. And I will expand the Child Tax Credit and cut taxes for working families while making big corporations and the uber wealthy pay their fair share.
