I firmly believe every American child deserves the chance to thrive, which starts with a high-quality public education. I spent my early career working to uplift Michigan’s kids. As Executive Director of Michigan Head Start, Chief of Staff at the Michigan Department of Education, and Vice-President of the Skillman Foundation, I fought to improve outcomes for our kids – making child care more affordable, creating and strengthening public schools, and much more. Now, I am proud to be endorsed by Michigan’s public school teachers.
In the State Senate, I have continued my mission to uplift our kids. I passed a law to make historic investments in our local public schools in order to pay teachers more, retain and attract quality educators, reduce class sizes, expand pre-K to thousands more children, and make breakfast and lunch free for every public school student in Michigan.
In Congress, I will continue to fight for public education and the best opportunities and outcomes for all of our kids, from childcare through college or other career training. I will reject the extreme Project 2025 Agenda that would eliminate the Department of Education and Head Start, and instead make sure we invest more in our kids, teachers, and schools. I will drive solutions that address the broken childcare system, so that parents are able to have good options for their children’s most formative years. And I will make sure all of our kids have affordable access to post-secondary education, whether that’s apprenticeships, trade schools, or college.
