I grew up in a working class household, where my dad worked from sun up to sun down to support our family. He and my mom taught my sisters and me the pride that comes from hard work. That’s why I firmly believe that hard work should allow you to support your family – whether you go to college or not. Here in mid-Michigan – the place where General Motors and the UAW put Americans on wheels – we need a champion to bring more good-paying jobs into our community and allow working families to succeed.
In the State Senate, I have fought to bring thousands of good-paying jobs to mid-Michigan, including manufacturing jobs with employers like Corning, Inc., SK Siltron, and Hemlock Semiconductor. I have been a steadfast ally of Michigan’s labor unions, including ending so-called “Right to Work” and restoring prevailing wage in Michigan.
In Congress, I will continue to fight to bring good-paying jobs and opportunity to mid-Michigan. I will work to make sure that we make things here in Michigan and bring supply chains home. I will fight back against trade deals that sell out American workers and make sure we stand up to adversaries, like China. And I will expand job training and apprenticeships, so that mid-Michiganders are trained for high-wage jobs that come to our region.
