As extremists and special interests try to rig the game and take away our freedoms, I will stand up to ensure that every American citizen has equal power in our democracy and the freedom to live as their true, authentic self. Unfortunately, systems in our politics like campaign financing and gerrymandering give power to the wealthy and well connected. We need to fix these broken systems and earn the trust of those we serve.

I am proud of my work in the State Senate to improve our government and transparency, and to protect the freedoms of Michiganders. We passed much-needed ethics reforms to ensure transparency from elected officials. We increased fair and secure access to the ballot. And we expanded the Elliott Larsen Act to protect LGBTQ+ Michiganders from discrimination.

In Congress, I will continue to be a champion for freedom, equal rights, and a fair democracy. I will work to remove the power of money and special interests in our politics by passing reforms to campaign financing, gerrymandering, and lobbying. I will fight to ensure that every American – regardless of race, religion, or sexual identity – is protected. I will ensure that all branches of government, including the Supreme Court, are accountable. And I will make sure it is safe, easy, and secure to vote for all Americans, without discrimination.

What’s more, we need to come together and reject division to heal our communities suffering because of our divisive politics. There is far more that unites our community than divides us, and to solve the challenges working families face, we need to rise above the anger and fear that is tearing our communities apart and holding us back. In Congress and here at home, I will always work to advance your best interests, not to get more clicks or cable news hits.
